Welcome to For Petey's Sake!
Petey, a Jack Rusell terrier and chihuahua mix, was adopted on December 7, 2013, after being out on the streets during a cold spell, hungry and alone. The Pasadena Humane Society did a wonderful job with him - he was neutered, vaccinated, and ready to go for the adoption event held that day at the Glendale BMW dealership. My mom's rat terrier, Bao, instantly started playing with him, and my mom, who would be taking him home, fell in love.
Before the event, we walked through the Pasadena Humane Society kennels, and I was brought to tears. I always feel bad when I walk through an animal shelter, but this day was particularly sad. It had been raining and was very cold that day. The dogs that ventured out from their dog houses were wet and pitiful, and some of them were desperate for affection. There were dogs of all breeds, tiny to huge, as well as cats and other species. My heart ached for all of them, but what bothered me most was the number of pit bulls. There were at least two pitties to every other dog in there, and as a human who is owned by two of them, it made me sad to think about these noble, beautiful dogs being abandoned and misunderstood. Cotnrary to the posted signs, I put my hands in many kennels that day, kissed many noses, and was kissed in return.
This blog, as well as taking steps for volunteerism with the animal shelter, is my way of trying to help. It will act as a place to post adoptable animals, give information on low-cost spay/neuter options, and provide information on rescues. Please stop by once in a while and pass the word!
With many thanks!
