LADY - ID#A342575
I had the privilege of meeting Lady at an adoption event last Saturday. She is very sweet, affectionate, and mellow, and gives lovely kisses! Unfortunately, I already have two pit bulls and have no more room, but she would make a wonderful forever friend!

Hero pit bull saves Ashland family from house fire

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — A rescue dog is being hailed a hero after alerting a family to an early morning house fire in Ashland.
Tina Sharpe’s sister owns Sammie, the pit bull. She said the dog typically sleeps through the night, but that wasn’t the case Sunday morning.
“She started jumping around on me, jumping on and off the bed,” said Sharpe, who realized something wasn’t right.
“When I got up I couldn’t see anything, the entire room filled with smoke,” she said.
A fire had started in Tina’s mother’s house that had six family members inside at the time. Sharpe said it was Sammie who got the entire family up.
“Words can’t even explain it. She saved everybody,” Sharpe said.
“If it wasn’t for the dog, we’d be dead,” said Brenda Sharpe, who owns the home.
Battalion Chief Jason Williams told CBS 6 News when firefighters arrived, they spotted heavy flames coming from the back of the home.
Brenda Sharpe said it was the chimney that caught fire. The fireplace was one of the ways she and her family were keeping warm during Sunday’s storm.
But now, they’re left without a home.
“Everything is gone. Clothes, shoes, pocketbook, everything,” said Cindy Perry, Brenda’s daughter.
Although they don’t know when they’ll be able to return home, Brenda and her family are giving thanks for the dog they rescued, who in turn rescued them.
“She is a hero,” Tina Sharpe said.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

Welcome to For Petey's Sake!
Petey, a Jack Rusell terrier and chihuahua mix, was adopted on December 7, 2013, after being out on the streets during a cold spell, hungry and alone. The Pasadena Humane Society did a wonderful job with him - he was neutered, vaccinated, and ready to go for the adoption event held that day at the Glendale BMW dealership. My mom's rat terrier, Bao, instantly started playing with him, and my mom, who would be taking him home, fell in love.
Before the event, we walked through the Pasadena Humane Society kennels, and I was brought to tears. I always feel bad when I walk through an animal shelter, but this day was particularly sad. It had been raining and was very cold that day. The dogs that ventured out from their dog houses were wet and pitiful, and some of them were desperate for affection. There were dogs of all breeds, tiny to huge, as well as cats and other species. My heart ached for all of them, but what bothered me most was the number of pit bulls. There were at least two pitties to every other dog in there, and as a human who is owned by two of them, it made me sad to think about these noble, beautiful dogs being abandoned and misunderstood. Cotnrary to the posted signs, I put my hands in many kennels that day, kissed many noses, and was kissed in return.
This blog, as well as taking steps for volunteerism with the animal shelter, is my way of trying to help. It will act as a place to post adoptable animals, give information on low-cost spay/neuter options, and provide information on rescues. Please stop by once in a while and pass the word!
With many thanks!
